Look what 2 minutes of my time brought in!

I found $.43 in under two minutes-which calculates out to $12.60 in an hour tax free...not bad. It's not much, but it's better than a hole in the head.

The family hasn't been out hunting lately. It's the hustle and bustle of the season for everyone. Wouldn't this be the best time of year to be out looking? That's what got me to stop by the local car wash to take a gander today. I hit my favorite vacuum stations and scooped up the coins quickly.

Christmas will soon be upon us - and everyone is excited. We have a metal detector picked out-so hopefully Santa will come through!

*Update: Claire and I went grocery shopping and to the video store this evening and came up with another 4 pennies for the pot. We both went in separate entrances to Albertsons and met each other with a Lincoln. Her penny was shinier than mine. At the checkout counter she was basically standing on a copper coin-which I gladly picked up (she didn't even see it). My two pennies to her one. The video store was the last stop, and she spotted the final coin of the evening-another Honest Abe. We ended up splitting the evening-a tie for finds.

Total finds for the day: $.47
Grand total to date: $33.01

Good luck and happy hunting!

Long time, no search...no post!

It's been quite a while since our last post. Over the last couple of weeks the weather has been terrible, so hunting has been limited....or maybe it's been a lazy spell?
I ended up stopping by the car wash to vaccum out my truck. Someone ended up leaving me 2 Canadian quarters in the coin return plus a few pennies

Finds over the last couple of weeks: $1.33

Grand total to date: $31.87

131 finding days averages out to $.24 per day.

Portland, Oregon produces zilch

Saturday morning started early for us. I needed to be at two different job sites to make sure the projects were going smooth. We also needed to be down in Vancouver, Washington by 2:00pm for Andrea's district volleyball finals that could bring her team to state. It's 175 miles to the tournament-and we got on the road at 11:20am. It was a torrential downpour most of the way down south, so we are glad that we took the truck. When we arrived at the match, the score was 4-4. The Greater St. Helens team is fifth in the state, and they beat Drea's team the first two games-which were close. Bothell Cougars beat their opponent the next two games. The best of five came down to one last duel. It was a fight to the end. Both teams played exceptionally well; it could have gone either way. Greater St. Helens came out on top-beathing Bothell 16-14-winning the match 3 games to 2.

As far as the hunt is concerned-we didn't find anything in Vancouver. Claire and I decided to travel a few miles down the highway to hit Portland, Oregon. We ended up buying some tennis shoes and ended up getting stumped on the finds in the state of Oregon. We looked for about 15-20 minutes at a few parking lots where we shopped, but came up empty. Washington State has been a much more coin finding friendly state, and it proved the theory at our first stop back in Washington for fuel at a Tacoma gas station. Claire and I ended up finding 3 pennies right outside of the truck's doors.

Breakdowns of the week.... Topping the $30.00 mark!

Here's another week for The Lincoln Penny Project. Let's see how we did!

Last week's grand total was: $26.92

This week's grand total is: $30.03
$5.00 (1) = $5.00
$1.00 (2) = $2.00
$.25 (49) + 2 Canadian (51) = $12.75
$.10 (52) + 1 Canadian (54) = $5.40
$.05 (25) = $1.35
$.01 (367) 3 wheat backs, 3 Canadian (373) = $3.73

This is an 11% increase from last week.

Finds of the day brings in $1.22. We topped the $30.00 barrier!

Claire, Andrea and I contributed to The Lincoln Penny Project today. It was a day of work for each one of us; teaching, learning and managing projects.

Andrea found $.28 at her school. It was after her German class that she spotted the Washington Quarter and three pennies in the school's hallway. She was pumped! After one of our roofing projects, I needed to vacuum the truck out at a car wash that I have never stopped at. When I pulled into the vacuum station and opened my door, look what was waiting for me....COINS!! The change added up to $.74. A Canadian Penny was also in the coin catch-a 1949 penny-the oldest find to date.

Claire and I attended Andrea's Volleyball district finals during the evening. They played a tough match, but ended up losing 3-1. Andrea's team still has an opportunity to end up 3rd overall...Yeah! After her match, Claire and I did a night time car wash run. She ended up finding $.08 and I found $.12.

Daily total find: $1.22
Grand total to date: $30.03
114 finding days averages out to $.26 per day
This could equate to $94.90 in one year for The Lincoln Penny Project.

Hip Hip Hooray for the Lincoln Penny!

It's all about the Lincoln Penny. At least this blog, The Lincoln Penny Project, is about the one cent coin. This is the coin that everyone leaves behind, throws to the ground and neglects. Why? This is our 114th day of the project and take a look at how many Honest Abe's we've recovered...amazing! Not only is it the copper pennies that are left behind, it's been a lot more. The hunt is fun, a family event that we recommend to all.

Happy Hunting!

Lincoln Pennies total find to date: 341
This includes 3 wheat backs and 2 Canadians

114 finding days averages out to 3 pennies per day.

$.14 for the day!

When Andrea came home, she said that she tracked down $.07 for the day (one nickel and two pennies). I found the same amount-with the same coin combination. How many times does that happen....never. At least it hasn't happened since The Lincoln Penny Project started on July 12, 2009.

Daily total find: $.14
Grand total to date: $28.81

Trick or treat?

It's Halloween and the morning began with Max's playoff game. They ended up losing 13-0. It was a great season and a lot of fun to participate as an assistant coach. Claire helped out with videoing on every other game, so it was a fun family event. We ended up hunting throughout the day finding $.62 (2 quarters and 12 pennies)in various places.

Andrea helped get Max ready for Halloween by painting up his face in camouflage. We went through the city of Bothell's parade scooping up some candy and seeing all of the cool displays. Then Andrea took us through the Highlands neighborhood for the real candy.

The rest of the night featured the movie "Ice Age-Dawn of the Dinosaurs."

The treat of the day landed Max a bunch of candy and the $.62. The trick was when Max found a Chinese coin in a coin return that he thought was a quarter. A great end to a Halloween!
