We are over the $50.00 mark of money finds!

Total finds since The Lincoln Penny Project began. Above and below ground finds.

Our quick afternoon hunt brought in $.88

Since The Lincoln Penny Project began on July 12, 2009 - we have recovered lost coins and bills in the amount of $50.61. It's been even more of an adventure since we got a Garrett Ace 250 metal detector for Christmas. We initially started out hunting for coins above ground and have been successful. It's amazing what people leave behind for us to pick up.

Max and I did a quick park hunt and our batteries for the machine finally quit on us. Since we didn't have any AA's with us, we had to hang it up for the afternoon. We did however dig up $.88 (1 quarter, 6 dimes and 3 pennies).

Daily find: $.88
Above ground finds: 0
Below ground finds: $.88
Total finds to date: $11.13 Day 10, which averages out to $1.11 per day.
The Lincoln Penny Project grand total: $50.59

Below ground finds: $12.26

Last minute Christmas shopping adds to The Lincoln Penny Project!

We doubled our finds from earlier today by adding $1.32 to the pot. Claire and I needed to go to the mall to pick up some photos and get a couple of stocking stuffers. Of course she ends up finding the first few coins of the evening, but I top it off by scoping out the one dollar bill that is sitting under a counter at a cookie stand. The strange thing about the paper currency is that two ladies are standing right over it and completely miss it. With all of the hustle and bustle of people moving about-they obviously were not aware of the bill. Being at the right place and time was in our favor.

Happy Holidays and Happy Hunting!
Earlier day total find: $1.17 + evening tally $1.32 = $2.49
Grand total to date: $36.19

We continue to be baffled over our finds!

Car wash places and service stations with air/water set ups prove to be great places for finds. After a supplier visit, I drove up to a car wash and found $.36 (3 dimes and 6 pennies. These coins were just sitting on the concrete step where the garbage can and vacuum is located....unbelievable! My second morning stop came after I stopped by from ordering a couple of dumpster drops for my upcoming projects. This time I stopped by my favorite Shell Station. Four Washington Quarters were placed near the vacuum stations...just waiting for me to scoop them up.

Early morning find: $1.36
Grand total year to date: $17.08
85 finding days averages out to $.20 per day
This pace equals $73.00 per year.

Soccer field nets us $.10! Pumpkin farm zilch...

Today was sparse for the coin pick ups. I picked up the Sunday times at the store and found 2 pennies.

We went to Erich's soccer game-hoping to come up with something. One of his teammates had a corner kick that Erich was able to head in for a score!!! They played an awesome game, but came up on the short end. We did however score our very first find at the fields-a dime.

Our final stop for the day was the pumpkin farm. Hay was all over the ground-which made hunting difficult. We scooped up a couple of pumpkins and got in some cool photos. The hunt turned up zip, but the outing was grand!
Daily total: $.12

Costco, Bowling and Car Wash

Hunt, find and post. It was our mission for the day. Max had a football game on Saturday afternoon. The parking lot and bleachers left us penniless. We had some hunger pains-so Costco came a calling. Hot dogs were on the menu-with some gellato ice cream for dessert. Andrea spotted the first coin. It was a Lincoln-of course-tilted on its side where the floor and wall met to buy the dogs. The diners were four deep-waiting to buy their grub. Not a soul picked up the lonely copper item-that is-until Andrea bent down to pick up her prize. While we were waiting in line-Steve toured the vending machines and spotted a coin. The first Canadian cent was found. Max was number three-another Lincoln find.

The family decided to take in some bowling for the evening. The place was packed. Andrea was on a mission. She scored both in finds and with the pins. Andrea found $.26 and a cool, blue toy elephant. Claire found the fake ring-and Erich found a token for a video game that he used. Andrea ends up beating all of us with a score of 115 for bowling. Erich gets the ultimate strike by coming up to the lane facing backwards and bowls through his legs and gets a strike. Each person ended up with a couple of strikes and spares.....cool!

The final stop was a late night car wash. We used the car wash in a different way. Max and Andrea spot the pennies and Steve gets the Roosevelt Dime. We were hunting in the dark. There was limited light from the car wash alleys. Someone washing their truck asked us if we needed a flashlight. We told him that our family does strange scavenger hunts and we were fine.
Total daily find: $.41
Grand Total to date: $15.60
83 finding days averages out to $.18 a day
Could average out to $65.70 per year.

Nickel in the Loo?

Question: Is it weird to pick up a nickel from a bathroom floor?
It's not that it is the nickel's fault, but to be seen lying on the bathroom floor of a "sick room" among the mire of germs and viruses found in a junior high school is a skosh gross. It sort of makes the thought of picking up that poor little "Tommy," a bit disconcerting.
But I did it anyway....and I'm five cents richer today than I was yesterday.
And I am glad that the one staff restroom was occupied and I had to tinkle so bad that I earned a little jingle in my pocket!

Enjoy the photos from our recent summer trip to Colonial Williamsburg and Washington D.C. If history is your thing, this is the place to be...Incredible! Photos include bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson in Williamsburg, VA and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. That's Claire in the picture with the Jefferson Memorial in the background.

Another job site-another penny!

It's just like panning for gold. If you don't pan, you won't find! Here is another penny added to the bottom line. Is it really this easy? Should we keep it a secret? Nah......

Happy Hunting!

Big Find of the day!

The earlier blog mentioned the three keys. One of the keys stated where you least expect to find something you will. I met a sub-contractor at the Sammamish River Park in Bothell to get some samples of a product. When we finished business, I took a walk around the perimeter edge just for kicks. I didn't expect to see what I saw next-a $5.00 bill staring back at me.

When you least expect it.........
